South Africa, often called “Sunny South Afrca” due to the climate and the conditions of the country. The climate varies from the west coast being cooler and wetter from the Atlantic through the more desert like central regions to the sub tropical eastern regions. On the whole the climate is one of sunshine and outdoor life.
The country is made up of 11 different groups of people which has lead it to be known as the ” Rainbow Nation”. It is a land of mixed societies and cultures that all live in reasonable harmony together.
The country has a vast amount of natural rescources, Gold, Diamonds, Platinum, Iron ore, Coal and because of the climatic contitions a large tourist trade.
For the tourist there is a vast amount of things to do and see. There is the magnificance of Table Mount in Cape Town, the vineyards as you leave Cpe Townand go through Paarl and Stellenbosch, the bueatiful scenery as you go up the coast via the ‘Garden Route’ towards Port Elizabethand East London.
In KwaZulu-Natal you have some of the best surfing beaches in the world and the warm water of the Indian ocean to make it more pleasent. Durban and Umhlanga to the north of Durban are large business centres as well as being holiday resorts. as you come inland to the mountains of the Drakensberg “ThDragons Back” you pass through Pietermaritzburg, often known as “the last out post of the British Empire”.
Going north as you cross over the Drakensberg you come to the the flat open land of the Free State often filled with the bright colours of the wild Cosmos. The capital of the Free State is Bloemfontain , also known as the ‘City of Roses.”
Further North you reach Gauteng which is the business centre of South Africa were you find the cities of Johannesburg “the City of Gold’ and Pretoria, famous for its Jacoranda trees and the purple carpet that they lay on the groun in spring, and the major suburbs of Centurion, Midrand, Randburg and Sandton.
Beyond Gauteng you get the Lowveld with its warmer climate and abundance of game farms filled with wild life such as the “Pilandsburg” and “Kruger Park”.
